Neoen, Prokon ink 10-year wind power supply agreement with Equinix

Neoen SA and Prokon Regenerative Energien eG signed an agreement to supply data center operator Equinix Inc. with green energy and guarantees of origin to be produced by their 35-MW Björkliden wind farm in Finland.

Equinix awarded the 10-year power purchase agreement, or PPA, following a competitive tender. The PPA covers 85%, or at least 30 MW, of the wind farm's output and is partially indexed to market prices, according to a Jan. 10 news release.

"At Equinix, we are committed to achieving our long-term goal of 100% clean and renewable energy across our portfolio of over 235 data centers around the world," said Sami Holopainen, managing director for Finland at Equinix.

The Björkliden project is owned 80% by Neoen and 20% by Prokon. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023, with commissioning to follow in 2024.
