MMG Ltd. said Jan. 3 that it resumed some mining operations at the Las Bambas copper mine in Peru after the Peruvian community that blocked the road used by the company agreed to indefinitely lift the blockade, following a meeting with government officials, Reuters reported.
The blockade forced MMG to suspend copper production at Las Bambas last month as the mine ran out of critical consumables.
The company expects mining operations at Las Bambas to reach full capacity by Jan. 3. MMG operated the Las Bambas plant at full capacity starting Dec. 31, 2021.
MMG said it is committed to working closely with the government and community members to reach an agreement.
