Telecom Italia SpA will lay off up to 1,300 employees this year in Italy through a voluntary early retirement scheme, Reuters reported, citing two union sources.
The staff reductions represent about 3% of the company's workforce in Italy, the news agency added. More than 2,500 people left the Italian telco in 2020.
The voluntary scheme is part of the Telecom Italia's business revamp in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
TIM and unions reportedly also agreed a potential further 178 jobs cuts to be implemented by the end of 2023 through a separate voluntary layoff scheme, the sources said.
