The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Feb. 26 approved Sempra Energy's application to acquire the additional 50% stake that it does not already own in the 155.1-MW Energia Sierra Juarez Wind farm in La Rumorosa, Baja California, Mexico, and a related radial generator-tie transmission line.
Under the proposed transaction (EC21-40), Sempra Energy will acquire the interest in IG Sierra Juárez S de RL de CV from Cometa Energia SA DE CV and Saavi Energia (UK) Ltd., which are affiliates of Actis LLP.
The 230-kV generation-tie transmission line connects the wind farm to the California ISO balancing area at the East County substation in California, owned by Sempra subsidiary San Diego Gas & Electric Co. The output of the wind farm is sold to SDG&E under a power purchase agreement.
