Amazon.com Inc. agreed to buy a steel plant in Chicago for roughly $45 million and redevelop it into a warehouse, the Chicago Tribune reported March 2, citing people familiar with the deal.
Ryerson Holding Corp. is in contract to sell the more than 70-acre Central Steel & Wire plant at 3000 W. 51st St. and lease it back for about two years, sources told the publication.
The property in the city's southwest side has enough warehouse space for at least 1.5 million square feet with ample parking space, a broker not involved in the deal said, according to the report.
The deal is not yet complete and could fall apart, according to the report.
Ryerson representatives declined Chicago Tribune's request for comment, and a spokesperson for Amazon declined to comment.
