Acciona SA entered into a five-year virtual power purchase agreement with Brembo SpA to help the automotive manufacturer offset the energy needs of its production plants in Poland and contribute to its decarbonization and sustainability programs.
Electricity will be sourced from Acciona's 63-MW Krobia I wind farm in Wielkopolskie, Poland, with the contract going live Feb. 1, according to a March 8 news release. While a virtual power purchase agreement does not require physical delivery of electricity, Acciona said it will inject 100,000 MWh into the grid and provide Brembo Poland with guarantees of origin. Financial details were not disclosed.
The agreement, Acciona's first virtual power purchase agreement in Poland, will strengthen the company's trading price structure and reduce its exposure to market price volatility, according to the company. The contract will also allow Brembo to optimize costs, access clean power and progress toward its emission reduction goals, Acciona said.
Acciona owns and operates 101 MW of wind assets in Poland.
