Australian media company Seven West Media Ltd. struck a partnership with Google LLC to provide content to Google News Showcase, a program that allows publishers to receive compensation for their content.
The companies plan to execute a long-form agreement within the next 30 days, according to a Feb. 15 news release. Additional details on Seven West and the Alphabet Inc. unit's agreement is expected to be announced at a later date.
The preliminary version of Google News Showcase launched in Australia in early February, carrying local and regional publishers including The Canberra Times and The Saturday Paper.
Google has been at loggerheads with the Australian government over a proposed law requiring the company to pay publishers for content.
