Germany's wpd denied permit to build Taiwanese wind farm – OffshoreWind.biz

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs rejected wpd AG's proposed 350-MW Guanyin offshore wind project, news website OffshoreWind.biz reported.

Wpd was denied a permit for the project after the Taiwanese Civil Aeronautics Administration asserted that the turbines could obstruct incoming and outgoing flights at Taoyuan International Airport.

Previously, project developer wpd described aviation security concerns as a "non-issue," according to the report.

Wpd had already signed supply agreements for the project with contractors in 2020. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S agreed to supply 36 turbines for the wind project, while Formosa Heavy Industry and CTCI Machinery Corp. agreed to provide the monopile foundation structures.

The wind project was scheduled for construction and commercial operations in 2022.
