Neoen completes 300-MW battery storage facility in Australia

Neoen SA started operating a 300-MW/450-MWh battery storage facility in Victoria, Australia.

The Victorian Big Battery project has a 250-MW system integrity protection scheme contract with the Australian Energy Market Operator. Under the contract, the battery will provide an automatic instant response in the event of an unexpected network outage, according to a Dec. 8 news release.

The battery will also participate in the National Electricity Market. The system is expected to support Victoria in reaching 50% renewable energy generation by 2030.

"Our journey in storage began in Australia in 2015 and we now have over [500 MW] of storage operating across three continents," Neoen Chairman and CEO Xavier Barbaro said in a statement.
