Italian internet provider Springo reached an agreement to become the latest co-investor in Telecom Italia SpA's infrastructure operator FiberCop.
The agreement between parties will allow the fiber-to-the-home, or FTTH, access market to be developed with Springo, according to a Dec. 27 news release.
Springo will use the fiber optic secondary access network to develop the FTTH access market in the Italian municipalities of Belluno, Conegliano, Montebelluna, Feltre and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The agreement will also be extended to other municipalities across Italy, through subsidiary company Ultra Fiber.
Springo is FiberCop's first co-investor in the entire Northern Italian territory, which is expected to aid FiberCop's target to bring FTTH coverage for 75% of the country's grey and black areas by 2025.
Wirlab SRL, Iliad, Tiscali SpA and Netoip are among the other companies that have agreed to co-invest in FiberCop, which became fully operational in April.
FiberCop is 58% owned by Telecom Italia, with KKR & Co. Inc.'s KKR Infrastructure and Fastweb SpA owning 37.5% and 4.5%, respectively.
