The Australian government will invest A$111 million to support the commercialization, adoption and use of quantum technology.
The total investment includes A$70 million for a hub to help commercialize Australia's quantum research through partnerships with similarly interested countries, while allowing local businesses to tap into new investors and markets, a Nov. 17 news release said.
The hub will operate under a national quantum strategy and prospectus, which will align government and industry efforts in developing quantum technologies. Australian Chief Scientist Cathy Foley will lead a national committee on quantum to oversee the strategy.
Australia identified quantum technologies as one of the nine areas for initial focus under the government's newly released blueprint and action plan for critical technologies in the country.
