Tesla registers India unit, names 3 directors

Tesla Inc. registered a company named Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Ltd. in Bengaluru, India, on Jan. 8, according to data from the country's Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The newly registered unit listed three directors: Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein, a senior executive at Tesla, according to his profile on LinkedIn.

The news comes weeks after the Minister of Road Transport and Highways reportedly said the electric-car maker was looking to start operations in India in early 2021. This follows an earlier tweet by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in which he said the company would enter the Indian market in 2021.

India plans to offer $4.60 billion in incentives to companies developing advanced battery manufacturing facilities, Reuters reported, citing a government proposal.
