A court in Rome ordered Vivendi SA-owned French video streaming portal Dailymotion SA and U.S. portal Veoh Networks Inc. to pay Mediaset SpA a total of €25.3 million for illegally using videos from the Italian broadcaster's TV programming.
Under the court ruling, Dailymotion was ordered to pay Mediaset €22 million, with an additional €85,000 in expenses and €1,000 a day to be paid if videos are further disseminated, according to a Jan. 22 release.
Meanwhile, Veoh will pay €3.3 million, with an additional €60,000 in expenses and €1,000 for every further violation.
A Vivendi spokesman cited by a Jan. 22 Reuters report said the company will file an appeal against the decision.
