PT Bayan Resources Tbk. produced 8 million tonnes of coal in the third quarter, 23% higher than the prior year's 6.5 million tonnes, to top its guidance for the period.
The Indonesian miner set a coal production guidance of between 6 million and 7 million tonnes in the quarter. The company said Oct. 10 that it remains on track to exceed its full-year guidance of between 24 million and 28 million tonnes.
The improvement was driven by increased overburden capacity and low stripping ratio at the Tabang coal project, thanks to lesser rainfall and additional mobilizing mining equipment. With that, the company was able to start developing a long-term mining sequence with minimal impact on coal production.
Meanwhile, coal sales grew 16% to 6.5 million tonnes from 5.6 million tonnes in the same period last year.
