Vodafone Italia looking to cut up to 1,130 jobs

Vodafone Italia SpA is in talks with trade unions about plans to slash as many as 1,130 jobs under its latest business plan, Telecompaper reported March 11, citing a statement.

The layoffs, which correspond to 15% of the telco's workforce of about 7,000, would reportedly affect workers "in all company functions."

The Vodafone Group PLC unit said it has to take action to ensure the company's sustainability amid heightened competition, especially in the mobile segment.

The report comes soon after Telecom Italia SpA reached a deal with the trade union to slash 4,300 jobs. The Italian operator in June 2018 began reducing the working hours of its approximately 30,000 employees.
