Box-office slowdown leads China to release more Hollywood movies this summer

China loosened its usual summer blackout of Hollywood moviesthis year.

Usually, foreign movie imports are blacked-out during the summerschool break months. According to sources cited in a July 8 article by The Hollywood Reporter, while domestic moviesdid good business in the first quarter of the year, the second quarter saw the Chinesebox office shrinking, which has contributed to the decision.

Chinese regulators gave ViacomInc.'s Paramount a release date of July 2 for "Teenage Mutant NinjaTurtles: Out of the Shadows," and TimeWarner Inc.'s Warner Bros. a release date of July 19 for "The Legendof Tarzan."

Comcast Corp.'sUniversal will release its animated feature "The Secret Life of Pets"on Aug. 2 in the country.
