TGS, Schlumberger partner up for Gulf of Mexico seismic survey

Norway-based TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. ASA and oilfield service major Schlumberger Ltd. announced Oct. 12 a multiclient nodal seismic project in the Gulf of Mexico known as Amendment.

The project comprises of a 2,350 square kilometer multiclient seismic survey in the Mississippi Canyon and Atwater Valley protraction areas in the Gulf of Mexico. Data will be acquired using Fairfield Geotechnologies 4C nodal acquisition technology and is expected to start in the fourth quarter. Final data will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of 2020. The survey is supported by industry prefunding.

"This unique dataset will provide a step change in illuminating complex subsurface structures and help exploration and production companies to maximize the value of their producing assets and rejuvenate their exploration portfolios," WesternGeco - Schlumberger, President Maurice Nessim said. "This highly integrated project will combine well log data, high-quality orthogonal WAZ and new nodal measurements to provide foundations for the first industry-funded regional nodal survey in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico."
