Digital content companies seek favorable terms on Apple App Store

A trade group representing digital content companies questioned Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook over conditions that these companies could meet to receive favorable terms on Apple's App Store.

In its Aug. 20 letter, Digital Content Next cited the arrangement Amazon.com Inc. is receiving for its Amazon Prime Video app in the Apple App Store.

Emails presented during a July congressional hearing showed that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Apple's services head Eddy Cue in 2016 agreed that Apple would halve the App Store fee for Amazon in exchange for Prime Video app on iOS and Apple TV. The two also agreed to 15% revenue sharing for new customers.

Apple has come under fire by regulators and lawmakers across the globe for its App Store policies, such as it charging a 30% commission from app developers that both developers and companies allege have resulted in fewer choices and higher prices for consumers.

This follows days after games developer Epic Games Inc. sought a court's intervention to prevent Apple from removing its video game Fortnite from its App Store and avoid retaliatory action against the developer's other games in the store.
