Northern Indiana Public Service Co. asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to acquire a stake in the 302-MW Indiana Crossroads Wind Farm through a joint venture with EDP Renewables North America LLC.
The EDP Renováveis SA subsidiary is developing and constructing the project under a build-and-transfer contract. NIPSCO, a NiSource Inc. subsidiary, was granted a certificate of public convenience and necessity in February 2020. The utility will acquire a stake in the project indirectly through a joint venture called Indiana Crossroads Wind Generation LLC, which it will also manage.
The project was selected by NIPSCO through a request for proposals process as part of its 2018 integrated resource plan.
NIPSCO is also the off-taker of the output of the project, which is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2021, according to a Jan. 13 FERC filing. (EC21-43)
The parties have asked the commission to approve the transaction by March 15.
