Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Insights & Analysis
Thea Fourie leads the Sub-Saharan Economics and Country Risk analysis for S&P Global Market Intelligence. Her 30-year career has been devoted to macro-econometric modelling and macro-economic analysis of Sub-Saharan region, with a focus on markets including South Africa and Nigeria. She leads a team of 12 regional experts responsible for forecasting macro-economic, country and sovereign risk outlooks across the region, with her expertise including strategic research and analysis, supporting clients globally on horizon scanning, portfolio management, market entry and risk mitigation.

Langa Malimela is Head of the Sub-Saharan Africa Country Risk team, within Market Intelligence at S&P Global.
Langa Malimela is Head of the Sub-Saharan Africa Country Risk team, within Market Intelligence at S&P Global. He specializes in analysing developments relevant to political and business risks on the African continent focusing on the southern Africa region. His research covers risk forecasts and analysis, including of war, terrorism, and political unrest, as well as the impact of business risks — tax, legal, operational — on industry sectors and companies. Prior to joining S&P Global, Langa led government affairs at a large African multinational corporation and also lectured on political science and international relations across a number of South African universities. Langa has an MSc and BSc from the University of Cape Town.

Research and Analysis Director of S&P Global Market Intelligence Country Risk
Jack is Associate Director and head of the Middle East and North Africa desk of the S&P Global Market Intelligence Country Risk team. Jack specializes in the geopolitical and commercial implications of political risks and violent trends across the MENA region, with a particular focus on Egypt, the Gulf states, and the eastern Mediterranean.
Prior to S&P Global Market Intelligence, Jack was lead Middle East analyst for a business and political risk consultancy firm in Scotland.
Jack holds an MLitt in Middle East and Central Asia Security Studies from the University of St Andrews and an MA in Arabic and Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh.
Senior Analyst – Sub-Saharan Africa
Jordan Anderson works as a senior analyst in the S&P Global Market Intelligence country risk Africa team, and specialises in forecasts on the political, security, and business environments of Africa’s Great Lakes and Horn regions.
Jordan Anderson works as a senior analyst in the S&P Global Market Intelligence country risk Africa team, and specialises in forecasts on the political, security, and business environments of Africa’s Great Lakes and Horn regions. He focuses on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Djibouti. He briefs clients regularly – ranging from the insurance sector and security managers to brigadier generals – on emerging risks and opportunities in these areas. Using bespoke in-depth intelligence reports and briefings, he has helped clients understand, for example, long-term security and political scenarios in the DRC’s Kivu region, regulatory and expropriation risks in the Ugandan power and energy sectors, and security risks to foreign investments from the 2015–16 Ethiopian civil unrest. He has also identified and analysed terrorism targets for countries in Middle East and African Sahel regions, including Chad, Israel, and Jordan. He has spoken and written on African affairs in a variety of media, including for Sky News, Al Jazeera, RFI Radio France Internationale (RFI), Agence France-Presse (AFP), CNBC Africa, Deutsche Welle, Le Monde, Jane’s Intelligence Review, and African Arguments. Previously, he worked for the Department of the Treasury at the US Embassy in London. Jordan Anderson holds a Master of Arts with Distinction in intelligence and international security from King's College London, where his dissertation focused on the role of magical beliefs and practices in warfare in the DRC. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in social anthropology and archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, United Kingdom.
