Summary
Asset-liability management (ALM) is not new or unique to insurance, but insurers and the asset managers that serve the industry face added complexity. Diverse underwriting risks, varying liability durations, investment income considerations, and regulatory capital requirements all influence how portfolios are structured and managed. At the same time, the return of higher interest rates, including periods where the 10-year Treasury passed 5%, has introduced market dynamics that many industry professionals have not navigated during their careers. Join us for a discussion covering:
- Traditional challenges in recognizing and managing investment income
- How ALM strategies vary across lines of business with different liability durations and risk profiles
- Balancing asset-liability alignment with liquidity needs, total return objectives, regulatory capital charges, and tax/accounting objectives
- Using scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate the resilience of an insurer’s ALM strategy
- Managing ALM across annuities and life insurance within a rising rate scenario
- Modern capital efficient structures
