Deal Tracker: Denver Broncos buyout tops media, telecom M&A amid June slide

Deal volume among U.S. and Canadian media and telecommunications companies declined 35.2% year over year in June to 129 transactions, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.

The total M&A deal volume also decreased 22.3% from 166 transactions announced in May.

The $4.65 billion agreement by PDB Sports Ltd., the business entity behind the Denver Broncos Football Club, to sell the club to a group of private investors was the biggest deal announced in the domestic media and telecom sectors in June.

Allen & Co. LLC is PDB Sports' financial adviser on the transaction. Advisory fees were not disclosed.

Quebecor Inc.'s pending $2.20 billion purchase of wireless services provider Freedom Mobile Inc. from Shaw Communications Inc.'s unit Shaw Telecom GP ranked as the month's second-largest sector deal.

The Bank of Nova Scotia and National Bank Financial Inc. served as financial advisers to Quebecor, which is a wholly owned unit of Les Placements Peladeau Inc.
