Ahold Delhaize's Albert Heijn trials meal delivery service in Amsterdam

Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV-owned Dutch retail chain Albert Heijn BV has partnered with Takeaway.com NV-owned Thuisbezorgd.nl to trial a free meal-delivery service at two of Amsterdam's Albert Heijn to go stores.

Customers can order a range of products, such as soups, salads, fruit snacks and fresh juices and have them delivered by Thuisbezorgd.nl couriers by electronic bicycles, according to a Dec. 17 announcement.

The trial will be assessed after two months, with Albert Heijn expected to announce more delivery initiatives in early 2019.

Albert Heijn operates 84 AH to go convenience stores, while Thuisbezorgd.nl offers deliveries in six cities from over 7,500 restaurants in the Netherlands.
