GSMA asks India to lower spectrum auction reserve prices

Industry body GSMA has expressed concerns over the spectrum auctionreserve prices set by the Indian government, calling the pricing "unrealisticin relation to the economics of the mobile industry."

The GSMA said April 28 that the recent cut made by the governmentto spectrum usage charges to 3% from 5% is not enough to offset the steep pricesfor the upcoming 700MHz spectrum auction.

The industry association continues to urge the Indian governmentto reconsider the current auction reserve prices, as there is a high possibilitythat the spectrum will go unsold if left at its current price, citing and Senegalas examples.
