Apple Inc.is paying $25 million to resolve a patent-infringement lawsuit filed byNetwork-1 Technologies, TheVerge.com reported July 8.
In the suit, Network-1 Technologies accused the iPhone makerof infringing on a patent for a file system function. The settlement alsoallows Apple to secure licenses to other Network-1 patents, according to thereport.
The patent was created by a company called Mirror Worlds,which initiated the suit against Apple. Network-1, which acquired the patent,then pursued the litigation.
Network-1 also secured a $4.6 million settlement fromMicrosoft Corp. tosettle a suit over the same patent.
