Volkswagen of America Inc.'s total vehicle sales in August rose 0.7% year over year to 32,255 units, marking the company's eighth consecutive month of sales growth in 2018.

Strong demand for the Atlas and 2018 Tiguan models constituted almost half of sales this year through August, the U.S. arm of German automaker Volkswagen AG said Sept. 4.

The company said it sold a total of 7,281 Tiguan units and 10,597 Jetta cars during the month.

Year-to-date sales increased 7% to 235,673 units compared to the same period in 2017.
