Puget Sound Energy Inc. agreed to purchase the entire output of Avangrid Renewables LLC's planned 150-MW Lund Hill solar project in Klickitat County, Wash., for its Green Direct program.
The Green Direct program allows participants to purchase 100% of their energy from dedicated, local renewable energy resources, according to a March 14 news release.
Avangrid Renewables is investing more than $100 million in the project, which is expected to begin commercial operation in 2020. Lund Hill would be on approximately 1,800 acres of land leased from private landowners and the Washington Department of Natural Resources.
In October 2018, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced that eight state agencies will purchase over 100 million kWh of electricity by 2021 from local wind and solar projects. These purchases will be made possible by the agencies' participation in the Green Direct program and Avista Corp.'s Solar Select program.
