The S&P Dividend Monarchs Index is designed to measure the performance of companies within the S&P Composite 1500 that have followed a policy of consistently increasing dividends every year for at least 50 years. These constituents have endured at least half a century’s market turbulence and demonstrated resilience through dividend growth and stock performance.
Key Characteristics
The S&P Dividend Monarchs Index extends beyond large caps to include both mid and small caps.
The index’s stringent 50-year dividend growth criteria may help identify companies with strong profitability and financial resilience.
According to backtested data since Jan. 31, 2018, the S&P Dividend Monarchs Index demonstrated defensive performance characteristics, with lower volatility and better drawdown compared with the S&P 500.
“Dividend Monarchs” is a trademark of Standard & Poor's Financial Services LLC, an affiliate of S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC.
