SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to reflect CS2 limit for CFR Japan naphtha assessments

Following industry changes, S&P Global Platts proposes to reflect a maximum of 3 ppm carbon disulfide in its assessments for naphtha cargoes delivered to Japan, effective October 2, 2017.

This proposal reflects a broad industry move towards a tighter CS2 specification for naphtha into Japan.

Under the proposal, the Platts C+F Naphtha outright assessments and the C+F Naphtha spot differential assessments for delivery to Japan will begin reflecting the new naphtha specifications from October 2.

Platts assesses the value of naphtha for delivery on a C+F basis into Japan, reflecting three major half-month time cycles, and an additional single "cargo" value reflecting two of these cycles.

The three half-month cycles assessed are generally: 30-45 days forward; 45-60 days forward and 60-75 days forward.

Assessments roll forward on the first business day of a new month, and the first business day after the 15th of every month.

The main cargo assessment for Japan, Mean of Platts Japan, reflects the lows and the highs of the second and third published cycles. This maintains a consistency in the rollovers and sets the benchmark as a 45-75 day market.

The main cargo assessment for Japan, MOPJ reflects the lows and the highs of the second and third published cycles. This maintains a consistency in the rollovers and sets the benchmark as a 45-75 day market.

Platts began publishing naphtha outright assessments on a C+F Japan basis from April 4, 1983.
