S&P Global Platts has launched daily assessments for US recycled high-density polyethylene (R-HDPE) bales and pellets on June 23, 2021, to further expand coverage of the growing recycled plastic markets.
Platts now assesses post-consumer mixed-color HDPE bales, post-consumer natural HDPE bales, and recycled HDPE pellets on a FOB Chicago basis. The assessments reflect material loading 1-30 days forward from the date of publication.
Post-consumer mixed-color HDPE bale assessments reflect bales that are a minimum of 80% mixed colored HDPE by weight. Typical impurities, such as LDPE and PP, should not amount to more than 20% by weight. The assessment reflects a typical volume size of 35,000-44,000 lb loaded via a standard 53-foot trailer.
Post-consumer natural HDPE bales should contain a minimum of 95% natural HDPE by weight. Other contaminants should not exceed 5%. The assessment reflects a typical volume size of 35,000-44,000 lb loaded via a standard 53-foot trailer.
Natural colored recycled HDPE pellets reflect non-food-grade pellets derived from post-consumer virgin HDPE polymers. R-HDPE natural pellets are of extrusion/blow molding grade and include natural, clear, and transparent colored pellets for consumer packaging applications. Pellets are non-food grade and odorless, with a melt flow index (MFI) of 0.35-0.8g/10 minutes tested at 190 degrees/5kg.
Price information on trades from other locations may be taken into consideration and normalized to a Chicago basis.
Prices are published in $/mt and cents/lb.
These assessments appear in Polymerscan, Platts Petrochemical Alert pages 624, 441, 574 and the Petrochemicals Service on Platts Market Center, under the following price database symbols:
