SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to launch four new dirty tanker assessments

Platts proposes to launch four new dirty tanker assessments, effective September 1, 2016.

The new assessments would reflect established trade routes for crude oil from the North Sea and West Africa, and would be based on both VLCC and Suezmax tonnage.

The three new VLCC assessments would be published on a lump-sum basis and expressed as US dollars per voyage, to reflect how these routes are traded. Platts would also publish the equivalent US dollar per metric ton value for this route. The Suezmax assessment would be published on a Worldscale basis and Platts would publish the US Dollar per metric ton value for the route.

VLCC HOUND POINT-FAR EAST: This assessment would reflect the lump-sum freight rate for carrying a 270,000 mt cargo of Forties crude from Hound Point to Far Eastern ports in South Korea and China.

VLCC WEST AFRICA-WEST COAST INDIA: This assessment would reflect the freight rate to move a 260,000 mt West African crude oil cargo to the West Coast of India. The assessment would be based on loadings from WAF terminals such as Qua Iboe and Forcados and discharges at ports on the West Coast of India such as Jamnagar and Sikka.

VLCC WEST AFRICA-EAST COAST INDIA: This assessment would reflect the freight rate to move a 260,000 mt West African crude cargo to the East Coast of India. The assessment would be based on loadings from WAF terminals such as Bonny and Erha and discharges at East Coast Indian ports such as Paradip.

SUEZMAX WEST AFRICA-SOUTH AFRICA: This assessment would reflect the Worldscale freight rate to move a 130,000 mt crude oil cargo from West Africa to South Africa. The assessment would be based on loadings from WAF terminals such as Bonny and discharges at South African terminals such as Durban.
