Achieving sustainability and supply security in a world of turmoil
Against the backdrop of a tumultuous energy market with record-high fuel prices and with the serious power rationing in the domestic market still in fresh memory, China issued the much-awaited 14th Five-Year Plan (FYP) for the energy sector in March 2022. The 14th FYP confirms many of the recent policy directions including the energy transition toward a low-carbon future and the increasingly important role of market factors in domestic resource allocation. Unlike the 13th FYP—which set reducing overcapacity as a prioritized goal, the 14th FYP highlights the importance of energy supply security including relying on domestic coal resources while continuing to support clean energy development.
During this Energy Briefing, S&P Global experts will discuss China's economic and energy market development pathway in the 14th FYP period (2021-25) and beyond, as well as related energy market development globally.
