Hardware continues to evolve at a pace that was unimaginable just a decade ago. The rapid release of 4G LTE or even 5G-enabled vehicles, paired with the sunsetting of 3G, has unlocked a great deal of potential behind the steering wheel. Digitalization and technology-forward consumer sentiment is driving a consolidation of cockpit electronics to enable an even faster upgrade cycle of interior components and compute power. The result is in an upheaval of these supply chains, paving the way for further mergers and acquisitions to survive the pace of change.
That being said, the vehicle is increasingly being defined by software and services. The broad possibilities of a software-defined vehicle are clearly significant, but also come with cost, competency, and talent concerns. Connected services in particular has the potential to redefine winners and losers, with margins higher than any other aspect of the vehicle manufacturing and sales business. Automakers such as General Motors, Stellantis, and Volkswagen have put aggressive targets of revenue ambition approaching or even matching those from manufacturing at the close of the decade. But is this just another hype cycle or are these goals realistic? And what role will each stakeholder play in this new world?
Please join S&P Global Mobility's Supply Chain and Technology team in-person in Paris for a morning of insight around critical subject matters of enablers for the connected car, disruption in hardware, new business models in connected services, and the rising importance of software. We will share our latest forecasts and highlights from our most recent research activities and instigate thought-provoking discussion around the needs, challenges, and potential solutions to the automotive industry in this most challenging of times.
