    E-Mobility Innovation Day - Seoul

    Overview

Electrification technology is in a maturing state of elevated consumer expectations and challenged industry business models

The automotive industry's ongoing transition to electrification is encountering new and surprising challenges. Maturing supply chains for critical technologies are beginning to identify clear winners and losers, with significant global strategy shifts as regions move at different speeds. The imposition of tariffs and protectionist policies to build domestic EV capacity in the United States and the European Union does little to diffuse trade wars, and a transition to technologies and critical minerals requires global collaboration. Chinese OEMs are seeing rapid expansion, but concern over price wars, sustainable margins, and a likely need for consolidation persists. Yet consumers can be sold on an electric vehicle if it is cheap enough, can be charged quickly enough, and delivers a sufficient range for their needs.

In 2026 and beyond, electrification technology developments will focus on:

    • Advancing battery technology (the race to optimize and further scale incumbent technology versus a solid-state breakthrough),
    • Improving the charging experience (through faster, more linear, more predictable dwell times)
    • Removing critical mineral dependencies (with rare earth-free electric motors and alternative battery compositions.)

Should the industry move faster or slower? Pursue short-term profitability and margin expansion versus future-proofing businesses for an all-electric future? Double down on enhancing incumbent technologies, or pursue the promising alternatives? Will the reluctant next wave of EV adopters be convinced? And ultimately, is this a curve in a clearly defined journey or a transition hitting the brakes?

At the E-Mobility Innovation Day, our regional experts will outline the importance of these developments through objective, data-driven insights and further market context in panel discussions. We explore the two themes of Electrification, Localization, and Technology in more detail with a focus on the Asia Pacific region, leveraging our proprietary technology research straddling battery, charging, propulsion, and thermal management domains, as well as our most recent consumer survey findings. Please join us in Seoul and Tokyo to meet with our analysts as they present ideas, trends, and solutions to the most pressing electrification technology challenges of 2026.
