Sao Paulo — Brazilian imports of polypropylene products -- homo-polymer and copolymer combined -- in August were down 1.9% year on year at 30,619 mt, Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade data showed Tuesday.
The imports were valued at $41.4 million FOB, compared with $48.1 million FOB a year earlier.
Month on month, imports of PP products were higher compared to 24,583 mt of July, valued at $34.4 million.
Imports of homo-polymer products in August were steady year on year at 22,028 mt compared with 22,047 mt a year ago. The imports were valued at $28.24 million FOB compared with $32.27 million a year earlier.
Month on month, imports of PP homo products were 41.9% higher compared to 15,522 mt of July, valued at $20.27 million.
During August, Colombia, which sent 6,720 mt, was the leading exporter to Brazil, followed by Argentina with 5,749 mt and Saudi Arabia with 5,568 mt. From January to August, Argentina exported 58,355 mt, followed by Colombia with 44,053 mt and Saudi Arabia with 34,410 mt.
Brazilian imports of copolymer products in August were down 6.2% year on year at 8,591 mt. The imports were valued at $13.16 million FOB compared with $15.82 million FOB a year earlier.
Month on month, imports of PP products were 5.2% lower compared with 9,061 mt of July, valued at $14.11 million.
During August, Saudi Arabia, which sent 2,007 mt, was the leading exporter to Brazil, followed by Colombia with 1,537 mt and Belgium with 1,413 mt. From January to August, Colombia exported 20,493 mt, followed by Saudi Arabia with 18,546 mt and South Korea with 7,869 mt.
