Platts European Recycled Polypropylene Weekly Commentary

  • Some unable to secure post-consumer natural pellets
  • Lack of waste pushes black pellets higher

The continuing critical supply chain issues experienced in the European recycled polypropylene market through November were still very much present in the week ended Nov. 24, though markets paused to prepare for January delivery volumes.

The chief concern in the market was the availability of natural pellets, which remains tight. Sources did not expect an increase in supply this side of Christmas and one recycler said that they could not secure any post-consumer natural PP at all.

Despite this, demand continued to grow and new and existing buyers were heard trying to secure material any which way.

Platts European Recycled Polypropylene Weekly Rationale

S&P Global Platts assessed black recycled polypropylene pellets at Eur1,225/mt DDP NWE Dec. 1, stable on the day and on the week, below a seller indication heard at Eur1,250/mt and above an ex works Poland offer for material with an MFI 20-30g/10 mins heard at Eur1,200/mt, considering the addition of truck costs to Northwest Europe.

Natural pellets were assessed at Eur1,775/mt DDP NWE, stable on the day and on the week, within a seller range heard at Eur1,750-1,800/mt, considering strong demand and maintaining a stable premium over black pellets.
