EDF, on its transparency website, said the planned outage is expected to begin at 10:00 pm local time (2100 GMT) Wednesday, curtailing available capacity at the unit by more than half to 400 MW until the outage ends at 8:00 am Thursday.

"External environmental causes" is leading to a decrease in power from the unit, EDF said on its website, without giving any further information.

At midday Wednesday, nuclear power plants supplied almost 46 GW of electricity to the French national grid, compared with approximately 44.5 GW registered at around the same time on Tuesday as strike action restricted availability, according to grid operator RTE.
