The plant, owned by a consortium including Iberdrola, Naturgy and EDP, was halted in the afternoon of Feb. 16 and put on cold standby after an issue with a valve in the refrigeration system, operator Centrale Nucleares Almaraz-Trillo (CNAT) said.

During the maintenance the plant suffered a small fire for 15 minutes in the main transformer in the early hours of Feb. 17. This led to an "emergency pre-alert" which lasted for 75 minutes.

A restart was initially scheduled for Feb. 21. The plant is due its regular refueling halt in May this year.

Spanish nuclear output is seen at 6.1 GW for the whole Feb. 23 according to grid data, with the country's six other reactors operating normally.
