Demand for recycled polypropylene was heard to be high in the week to Jan. 12.


Demand remained strongly linked to the quality of the material available. At the same time, inquiries for material were heard to be surpassing the number of offers in the market.

As in other recycled polyolefins markets, transport costs and energy costs were being discussed as factors supporting spot values. Nevertheless, spot pricing in the Northwest Europe recycled PP market remained stable during the week to Jan. 12.

In industry news, chemicals producer Ineos has joined the Nextloopp Project that aims to create food-grade recycled polypropylene made from post-consumer recycled packaging, the company said in a statement Jan. 11.

The company’s Olefins and Polymers segment said it would form part of the two-year project to build a demonstration plant in the UK that would produce a nameplate 10,000 mt/year of recycled polypropylene.

Platts European Recycled Polypropylene Weekly Rationale

S&P Global Platts assessed recycled polypropylene natural pellets at Eur1,830/mt DDP NWE Jan. 12, unchanged on the day and on the week, above a Eur1,600-1,800/mt indication heard Jan. 12, below an indication at Eur1,850/mt heard Jan. 10, and considering feedback of strong demand.

Recycled PP black pellets were also assessed unchanged on the day and on the week at Eur1,255/mt, in line with an indication placing values at or around that level corroborated Jan. 10.
