Provides Price Transparency for Renewable Energy Certificates
LONDON, 5 November 2019 - S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets, has launched new price assessments for certificates of European Guarantees of Origin ("EuGO"). EuGOs are the only means of proving the origin of electricity was generated from renewable sources.
This emerging market is set to grow strongly on the back of increased renewable capacity across Europe and the growing need by companies to display their commitment to using renewable power.
Jamila Al Ibrahim, Managing Editor, European Power, said: "As the energy transition gathers momentum, companies are increasingly keen to demonstrate their green credentials to both their customers and investors and this incudes certifying the origin of their electricity supplies. The market for EuGOs is expected to expand significantly. Backed by a robust and transparent methodology, renewable power producers and energy consumers will benefit from a greater understanding of the supply and demand dynamics underpinning EuGO prices, which are increasingly included within long-term Power Purchase Agreements."
The assessments are published daily for Nordic Hydro and EU Wind for the current calendar year and year ahead in Eur/MWh.
More information on the EuGO methodology is available on the website.
