Platts launches 12 new container bunker cost assessments

S&P Global Platts has launched 12 new daily container bunker charge assessments, complementing the existing container assessments, from November 1, 2019. All of these new assessments reflect the use of 0.5% marine fuel.

The new bunker charge assessments cover the following container routes:

The bunker charge assessments reflect the bunker costs for transporting a forty-foot container on the above routes and are expressed in $/FEU.

These assessments are calculated using $/mt bunker prices in representative ports, published by Platts.

VLSFO PBC17 and PBC18 -- Fujairah, Rotterdam, Malta, Gibraltar, Pireaus, Singapore

VLSFO PBC21 and PBC22 -- Houston, New York, Singapore, Rotterdam

VLSFO PBC23 and PBC24 -- Los Angeles, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan

The bunker charge round voyage weighting allocation, vessel speed and consumption used in the bunker charge calculations are arrived at through market survey and reflect market practice.

All assessments include a sea margin of 5%.

The voyage durations are arrived at through market survey and the vessel will proceed on a round voyage basis to ports in geographical rotation within the below ranges.

PBC17 and PBC18 -- Indian Subcontinent - North Continent range

PBC19 and PBC20 -- Indian Subcontinent - North Asia range

PBC21 and PBC22 -- East Coast South America - East Coast North America range

PBC23 and PBC24 -- Southeast Asia - West Coast North America range

PBC25 and PBC26 -- Southeast Asia - East Coast North America range

The above variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments will be regularly updated to reflect market practice and new regulations.
