S&P Global Platts hereby notifies the market that on October 2 it is activating a mechanism allowing for the temporary use of indicative bids and offers in the calculation of its FOB Australia coking coal index.
The temporary measure will help to increase the number of price points available to compile TSI's coking coal at a time of reduced spot market activity. The measure is temporary, and Platts will notify market participants when the use of this mechanism ends.
Platts introduced the mechanism into TSI Coking Coal methodology in November 2017 (https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/091517-platts-to-change-methodology-of-tsi-coking-coal-indices-metals) as a way to help the index remain representative at times of reduced spot liquidity.
