Platts opens market consultation on iron ore lump

S&P Global Platts is opening, starting Wednesday, a consultation period on the iron ore lump market in Asia. As the market for iron ore in general and lump products in particular continues to evolve, Platts would like to review its assessment process of the iron ore lump spot market.

The review will focus particularly on the following areas of methodology:

  1. The relationship between the underlying fines forward curve and the lump premium, and its appropriateness or otherwise to inform structure in the premium assessment
  2. The timing of the month roll, given the mid-window month is 35 days forward

Market participants are welcome to provide suggestions on these points and on any other aspect of the methodology employed by Platts to assess the iron ore lump spot market.

Should the consultation and review lead to a proposal for changes to the methodology, Platts will advise the market as a whole by publishing a subscriber note detailing the proposed changes, with a timeline for a decision and subsequent implementation.

Platts invites market feedback on this consultation by August 30. Please send comments and queries to iodex@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.

For written comments, please provide a clear indication if comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing. Platts will consider all comments received and will make comments not marked as confidential available upon request.
