Platts proposes to discontinue NNE Brazil raw sugar assessments

S&P Global Platts is proposing to discontinue its North-Northeast Brazil FOB Maceio raw sugar assessments, effective November 2, 2020.

Platts understands exports of raw sugar from Brazil's North/Northeast region have been declining in recent years, with sugarcane production in the region shifting primarily to the domestic production of ethanol. In addition, the limited export flows out of Brazil's North/Northeast region have largely been to fulfill contractual volumes in the US and Europe.

The affected assessments are:

SGABC00 - Brazil NNE VHP outright price

SGABB00 - Brazil NNE VHP Pol premium

These assessments currently appear on Platts Agriculture Alert page number 510, in the daily Global Sugar Market Report and in the Platts price database under the codes above.

Platts will continue to publish its Center-South Brazil FOB Santos raw sugar assessments.

Please send any feedback, questions or comments by August 11, 2020, to americas_ags@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com.

For written comments, please provide a clear indication if comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing. Platts will consider all comments received and will make comments not marked as confidential available upon request.
