Listen: Debate continues over the future of the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve as US oil output breaks records

On this week's Platts Capitol Crude we look at a plan by Congress to lease unused space in the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve to private companies and foreign governments.

We talk to Congressman Joe Barton, a Texas Republican, former chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and sponsor of a bill to open up the SPR to leasing.

Barton said that some Permian companies are interested in leasing SPR space at a time when Congress is selling off millions of barrels from government stockpiles and debate rages over the future of the SPR as US oil output breaks records.
