Houston — US polypropylene producer Braskem America suffered a process upset thisweekend at its polypropylene facility in Freeport, Texas, a filing with stateregulators showed.

The upset at the 320,000 mt/year Texas facility happened Saturday when aleak occurred during a transfer process, according to a filing with the TexasCommission on Environmental Quality.

The company reported flaring 10,000 lbs of propylene.

"Maximum time from the start of the release to blocking in was estimatedto be less than 10 minutes," Braskem America said.

A company spokeswoman could not be reached for comment on the status ofoperations.

S&P Global Platts assessed US polypropylene Monday at $915-$937(41.5-42.5 cents/lb) FAS Houston for homopolymer injection-grade.
