Dow reports ethylene release during maintenance at Texas plant: filing

Houston — Some 10,000 pounds of ethylene was released during maintenance work atDow's Freeport, Texas, site, the company said in a Wednesday filing with theTexas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The release occurred during work on the plant's Polyethylene 4 unit, thecompany told TCEQ. Maintenance, which began Tuesday night, was scheduled tolast 24 hours.

Dow said in the TCEQ filing the maintenance was necessary to purge thereactor prior to restarting. It was unclear if the reactor had been restartedWednesday or if any production had been lost as a result of the work.

Dow officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
