Notes: Japan's largest refiner JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy shut the 115,000 b/dOsaka refinery Monday to carry out inspections, after an earthquake rockedOsaka that morning, a company official said.
In a briefing note to media, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industrysaid JXTG's Osaka refinery had an automatic shutdown from the earthquake.
It is not immediately clear whether the entire refinery was shut, andthere are also no details on the expected duration of the shutdown as yet, theofficial said.
As of 9 am local time (0000 GMT), JXTG had resumed truck and waterborneoil product shipments at the Sakai refinery after suspending them earlier, theofficial said, adding that refinery operations were continuing at Sakai.
The refiner has also maintained refining operations and oil productshipments at the Wakayama refinery in western Japan, the official added.
Northern Osaka was rocked by a strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake at 07:58am at a depth of about 10 km, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, addingthat no tsunami warning was issued.
