Sao Paulo — Brazilian total imports of carbon sheet steel in 2017 jumped 84.5% yearon year to 603,889 mt from 327,348 mt in 2016, data from MDIC, the country'sforeign trade ministry, showed Friday.

Hot-rolled coil imports last year jumped 49.7% to 122,365 mt from 81,738mt imported a year ago while imports of cold-rolled sheet steel increased99.9% to 217,950 mt from 108,997 mt a year earlier.
Imports of hot-dipped galvanized steel sheet soared 92.9% in 2017 to263,757 mt from 136,614 mt in 2016.
Analyzing only December's imports, Brazil imported 14,802 mt, down 60.9%from 37,924 mt in December 2016. These imports were valued at $9.63 millionFOB, down 51.2% from $19.76 million FOB in the year-ago period.
Imports of HRC were 1,903 mt, down 49.3% from 3,755 mt in December 2016.CRC imports totaled 6,220 mt, down 69.1% from 20,141 mt. Volumes of HDG were6,679 mt, down 52.4% on year from 14,028 mt.
