Washington — Pacific Gas and Electric's 1,197-MW Diablo Canyon-2 in Avila Beach,California, is headed toward a refueling and maintenance outage, companyspokesman Blair Jones said Monday.

"We're starting to gradually ramp unit 2 as we prepare for a plannedupcoming refueling outage," Jones said.
The unit was operating at 93% capacity early Monday morning, the USNuclear Regulatory Commission said in a daily reactor status report. The unitoperated at 93% Sunday, 95% Saturday, and 100% Friday, according to the NRC.
US nuclear power units typically reduce output gradually before beingshut for refueling. This "coastdown" period varies in duration from severaldays to several weeks.
The 1,197-MW Diablo Canyon-1 was operating at 100% early Monday morning,the NRC said.
